Itinerary

Day 1: Moshi/Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Moshi or Arusha. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll set off for Tarangire National Park, a drive of approximately two to three hours through the stunning landscapes of northern Tanzania. As you enter the park, the impressive sight of ancient baobab trees and vast open plains will welcome you.

Tarangire is known for its large elephant herds, which you’ll likely encounter as you embark on your first game drive. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for other wildlife, including zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and lions. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to more than 500 species. At midday, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the serene wilderness.

In the afternoon, continue your game drive, exploring more of the park’s unique ecosystems. The landscape shifts from dry savannah to lush marshes, attracting various animals, particularly during the dry season. As the sun sets, you’ll head to your lodge or campsite, where a delicious dinner awaits, followed by an overnight stay amid the African bush.

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, you’ll leave Tarangire behind and begin the journey towards the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. The drive takes you through the scenic Great Rift Valley, passing by the vibrant Maasai villages and the lush highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey offers breathtaking views and a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Maasai people.

After a brief stop at the Ngorongoro Crater viewpoint for photos, you’ll continue on to the Serengeti, where vast open plains stretch as far as the eye can see. The Serengeti is famous for its annual wildebeest migration, but it is also home to an abundance of wildlife year-round. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a packed lunch before heading out on an afternoon game drive.

The Serengeti offers excellent opportunities to see the “Big Five”—lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos, and rhinos—along with cheetahs, hyenas, and a wide variety of herbivores. The open plains provide excellent visibility, allowing for incredible sightings of wildlife in their natural habitat. As evening approaches, you’ll settle into your lodge or campsite for dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 3: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Start your day with an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, as the dawn light reveals the park’s true majesty. This is a prime time for wildlife viewing, as many animals are most active in the cooler hours of the day. After capturing the magic of the early morning on the Serengeti plains, you’ll return to your accommodation for breakfast.

Following breakfast, you’ll embark on the drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way, you may spot more wildlife as you leave the Serengeti behind. After a scenic journey, you’ll reach the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s largest volcanic calderas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The view from the rim is nothing short of spectacular, with the crater floor spread out below, teeming with wildlife.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the crater rim or simply relax at your lodge or campsite, taking in the breathtaking scenery. Dinner will be served at your accommodation, and you’ll spend the night near the crater, preparing for an exciting day of wildlife viewing in the morning.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater to Moshi/Arusha

Today begins with an early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder that is home to a staggering variety of wildlife. As you drive down into the crater, you’ll feel as though you’ve entered an entirely different world, with lush green landscapes and a salt lake that draws flamingos and other bird species.

The crater floor offers an excellent opportunity to spot the “Big Five,” including the critically endangered black rhino, which can often be seen grazing in the open grasslands. Hippos wallow in the crater’s pools, and lions are frequently seen lounging in the sun. You’ll also have the chance to see hyenas, zebras, wildebeests, and various antelope species. With a packed picnic lunch, you’ll spend the day exploring the crater’s rich ecosystems.

After a full day of game viewing, you’ll begin your ascent out of the crater and start the return journey to Moshi or Arusha. The drive back will take you through more picturesque landscapes, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of your unforgettable four-day adventure.
