Activities

Jozani Forest

This is Zanzibar’s main protected area and a haven for wildlife. The forest is home to the rare Zanzibar red colobus monkey, as well as other species like blue monkeys and various birds.

Activities: Guided walks through the forest offer a chance to learn about the unique ecosystem and see some wildlife in its natural habitat.

Safari Blue

While not a traditional safari, Safari Blue is a popular excursion that takes you to the waters around Zanzibar for a day of snorkeling, swimming, and dolphin spotting.

Activities: Enjoy a boat trip on the Indian Ocean, snorkel in coral reefs, and possibly see dolphins and other marine life.

Prison Island (Changuu Island)

This island, located a short boat ride from Stone Town, was once a prison and now serves as a sanctuary for giant tortoises.

Activities: You can visit the tortoise sanctuary, explore the island’s history, and enjoy some time on the beach.

Nakupenda Beach

A beautiful sandbar that emerges at low tide, Nakupenda Beach offers pristine waters and stunning scenery.

Activities: It’s a great spot for relaxation, swimming, and enjoying a beach picnic

Spice Tour

Zanzibar is known as the “Spice Island,” and a spice tour provides insight into the cultivation and uses of various spices like cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Activities: Tour spice farms, see how spices are grown and processed, and sample fresh spices.

Cultural and Historical Sites

Explore Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its labyrinth of streets, historical buildings, and vibrant markets.

Activities: Visit sites like the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, and the Slave Market for a deeper understanding of Zanzibar’s rich history.
While Zanzibar doesn’t offer the classic safari experience with big game viewing, it provides a different kind of adventure with its unique mix of nature, culture, and history.
